The Vredenburg Saldanha Cricket Club, affectionately known as "Die Krewe," has a rich history deeply rooted in the local community. Founded amidst the backdrop of Vredenburg, a town established in 1740 to manage grain from the surrounding farms, the area initially bore names reflecting the struggles over water rights, such as Twisfontein and Prosesfontein. In 1875, the construction of the local church led to the town being renamed Vredenburg, meaning "town of peace."

Although the exact year cricket was first played in Vredenburg remains unknown, local players have long competed on rugby fields within the West Coast league, a part of Boland's third league. The town council demonstrated remarkable support when the cricket club sought its own dedicated grounds, assisting in leveling the land and planting grass on an open area. By 1978, this newly established ground was situated on the outskirts of Vredenburg, and the clubhouse—featuring squash courts—was completed in the 1979-1980 season.

In 1975, the towns of Vredenburg and Saldanha were officially joined by government order. However, it wasn't until the Vredenburg Cricket Club aimed for Premier status that the two clubs amalgamated, ultimately achieving this esteemed status in 1990. Since then, the club has enjoyed consistent success, securing a second-place finish in 1994 and competing in two one-day finals.

Throughout our history, notable players have emerged from our ranks, including Boland representatives such as Kenny Jackson, Dewald van Wyk, and Neil Carter. We have also been graced by the presence of international figures like Ashley Giles, Graham Charlesworth, and Dougie Brown.​

We take great pride in the fact that 95% of our players come from previously disadvantaged communities, making our achievements even more significant within the Boland cricket fraternity.

In recognition of our commitment to fostering talent and providing opportunities, Cricket South Africa designated our club as one of only three HUBS in the Boland during the 2014-15 season. This acknowledgment highlights our long-standing dedication to the development of cricket in the broader West Coast region.

Additionally, we are honored to hold the CSA Blue Flag Status, a prestigious recognition awarded for operating an effective cricket pipeline structure. This status is based on our administrative capabilities, adequate facilities, a minimum number of teams, and the presence of suitably qualified coaches.
